Council 486(Ayrshire)

Welcome to Council 486 (Ayrshire)               Please have a look round our website and discover who we are and what we do.        We are an organised body of Catholic laymen, dedicated to the Holy See by assisting the Clergy and the community in any way we can.        Each one of us have  made a solemn declaration to commit ourselves to the good of the Church.           I would like to personally invite YOU, to take up the same challenge, by becoming a Knight of St Columba and by answering Christ's call to service, together in unity.       May God send his blessings upon you as you discern our fraternity as a way of life, Yours fraternally, Bro. Lewis Docherty Grand Knight.

Congratulations To Bro. Michael from all at Council 486

An initiation ceremony held during Mass at St Joseph's RC Blantyre, saw the elevation of our Brother Michael Wright to full knighthood. A personal thanks to Province 16 who kindly extended an invitation to us and allowing Bro. Michael this opportunity.

Indeed, the evening was made twice as special by having none other than our Supreme Knight Bro. Jonjo McDonagh in attendance to oversee proceedings. Bro Jonjo, whose home Province is Province 16, made a personal welcome to Bro. Michael and wished him every success as he embarks on his vocation as a full Knight of St Columba.

'Nine Holy Hours' - Diocese of Paisley

September saw the beginning of a series of evening prayer sessions run by our council at St John Ogilvies RC, Bourtreehill. The evenings have been well received by both Knights and Parish members alike; all express fervour for the sessions ahead.

This package was given to us by the Diocese of Paisley and the Catholic Agency to Support Evangelisation, after it was recognised that there was little in the way of materials to support lay members who wanted to pray together regularly for vocations.

Each holy hour focuses on vocation and evangelisation, and is set within the themes of Creation (the beginning), each of the seven sacraments (our Christian life), and commissioning (being sent out to proclaim the Good News).

All are welcome to these prayer sessions and don't worry that you haven't attended the first one, they are not successive in nature; each evening is different!

Next Session: Called to Life

'Reflecting on Jesus, the Son of God, as the bread of life, given for us in the Sacrament of the Eucharist'

Tues 11th November 2008 7.30pm - St John Ogilvie's RC, Bourtreehill, Irvine.

13th May 2008 - Annual Provincial Retreat - Sacred Heart Fathers, Smithstone            House Pastoral Retreat Centre.

'The Descent of the Holy Spirit'.

Province 28 enjoyed their annual retreat, reflecting on a Pentecostal theme which was hosted by Fr. Stephen Montroni of the Sacred Heart Fathers. The evening was introduced with a brief history of Smithstone house, followed by prayer and reflection. Mass was served in the beautiful grounds of Smithstone House and the evening was concluded with a devotion to our Lady of Fatima over by the Grotto.

Thanks to all the organisers, all those in attendance and of course to Fr. Stephen and the Sacred Heart Fathers who continually support the Knights and our activities.

8th May 2008 - Congratulations to Bro. David Pollock on receiving his Past Grand Knights collar and jewel. Thanks for all your efforts during your three year term, working tirelessly to help keep our council active.
